The Collection

The Spiracle 5x silk scarf is part of Eleni Bantra's Insecta collection. INSECTA collection aims to explore the sheer and delicate complexity of insects through the microscopic detail of their multi-structured forms. While keeping the brand’s authenticity, the collection creatively and equally utilises the factors “nature” and “man”, while at the same time, organically combines art with science, going beyond what is obvious at first sight. 

Design story

The lab sample used for this design was spiracle which was combined with the geometric shapes found inside the lab. In arthropods, spiracle is the small opening of a trachea (respiratory tube). Spiracles are usually found on certain thoracic and abdominal segments. The muscular valves of the spiracles, closed most of the time, open only to allow the uptake of oxygen and the escape of carbon dioxide.

Spiracle 5x is designed and printed in England on high quality satin silk, and measures 45x45 cm. Satin silk is a slightly heavy fabric which has a smooth and lustrous surface, as well as an exceptional drape. This scarf is unisex, can be worn in a variety of different ways, during all seasons and can be easily adapted to any outfit as a statement piece.
